"What Am I Supposed to Say?" Kailah's Story
I slowly let out a long breath through pursed lips.
I was slouching over my wooden desk, propping my chin up with my arms - my elbows were growing steadily more red and sore as the minutes passed.
Half an hour ago I had been sitting straight up, concentrating on my posture. But after staring down at my blank notebook for thirty minutes I had given up trying to fight gravity.
I watched the wick of my candle begin to sputter and realized that I had been thinking about a lot of different things, and none of them were what I had set this time aside to think about.
The sun was setting and I knew that by the time I saw it rise I would need to have something written out on this notebook…
...and hopefully I would have been able to get some sleep.
I was scheduled to lead worship at my home church the next morning, and I had also been asked to share something during the set.
I had originally been excited at the thought of speaking, but now I just couldn’t seem to figure out what I was going to say.
I had figured that prepping for the service would take well under an hour, but that was looking less and less probable.
I closed my eyes and ran my fingers through my hair.
“Jesus, what do YOU want me to say tomorrow? Please give me Your words.”
Honestly, I just wanted these people to really know about my Jesus.
“Wait a second,” I sat straight up and took a breath, “What have I been doing this whole time?”
The realization had hit me hard - this had always been about one thing…
The message of Jesus.
Several years ago God had given me a passion to tell people about JESUS.
And that passion was still just as strong.
And suddenly, my mind was clear - I just needed to share the simple Gospel: the truth that Jesus looked at us in our brokenness and sin and still loved us enough to give His life for our freedom and reconnection to God.
I felt almost like I had just awakened from a deep sleep.
I remembered that my dad had once told me that every time he speaks he doesn’t have to think of what to say, but instead, how to present the Gospel.
And so I started to think about how to do just that.
I spent a few more minutes in my room writing down all that I was going to say, and then I closed my notebook, thanking Jesus for speaking to me.
The next morning I sang a few songs and then began to speak.
I explained that all of us have all separated ourselves from God by our sins…
That God looked at us in our brokenness and sent His son Jesus to live a perfect life, die the death we deserved to die, and be raised to life again, breaking down the walls between us and Him...
That it is as easy to say, ‘yes’ to Jesus and be reconnected to Him as admitting we’ve messed up, believing that Jesus is God and that He gave His life for us, and then calling on His name.
“I used to feel broken and afraid, but God set me free from fear. And He showed me that I never have to be alone…” I paused and swallowed, fighting back tears, “This God is real and good, and He loves you desperately. Forgiveness and freedom are available through Jesus to anyone who wants it...”
When I was finished speaking, we worshipped God together as a church.
“Hallelujah. You have saved me,” in a sort of raw overwhelming thankfulness we sang, “it’s so much better Your way…”
I was reminded again of just how powerful this simple message of Jesus really is.
It’s this message that I want to spend the rest of my life sharing with the world.
And it’s why we do what we do.
“For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.” [Romans 1:16]
More. Committed. Than. Ever.
2020 has been a year of incredible challenges, but we are more convinced than ever that Jesus is STILL the answer.
We've had to reschedule many of our upcoming outreaches (Zambia, India, and Haiti) until early next year, but we're still committed to the goal of reaching as many people as possible in every nation with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ and we’re excited to report that things are SLOWLY STARTING TO OPEN UP!
We’ve been offered a few opportunities to share the message of Jesus in live venues across the United States over the next few months, and we are asking that God would move powerfully in these events and draw many people to Himself.
We’ve also been using this time to create content designed to introduce people to the love and message of Jesus. This is the goal of every song, blog, podcast, and video that we produce, so please feel free to use our content as a resource if you know someone who needs to hear this message.
If you'd like to help us share the love of Jesus in 2020 with a tax-deductible monthly donation or a one-time gift, simply click the link below for more information. We're deeply thankful for you, friends!
